September begins in Donostia with one of the most important and exciting sporting events of the year: the 2026 La Concha Rowing Races. Over two Sundays, the bay fills with traditional rowing boats, supporters and visitors ready to enjoy a competition with more than a century of history.
The qualifying races will take place on Wednesday, 2 September, at 6:00 pm for the men’s category, and on Thursday, 3 September, also at 6:00 pm, for the women’s category. The selected crews will then compete for the prestigious La Concha Flag on Sundays 6 and 13 September.

A tradition that transforms the city
The La Concha Rowing Races have been held since 1879 and are much more than a rowing competition. From early in the morning, thousands of people gather along the Paseo de La Concha, around the harbour, on Mount Urgull and at other viewpoints overlooking the bay. The flags representing each town, the lively atmosphere among groups of supporters and the excitement of every turn make this day a true celebration.
If you are visiting San Sebastián during these dates, it is a good idea to arrive early. The areas around the bay attract large crowds, and getting around with suitcases or backpacks can be particularly inconvenient.
